1 Timothy 6:10

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” 1 Timothy 6:10

Notice that Paul says the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Money itself is not the root; it’s the love of it.

It is when we love money above God, when money becomes the desire of our hearts and focus of our thoughts that it becomes evil in our lives.

Matthew 6:24 says: “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
I don’t want to serve money, I want to serve God with my money, as little of it as I may have.

Hebrews 13:5 says: “Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’.”
This is one of the most comforting verses to me, and one which many have used to encourage me.

Money will come and money will go, but my God will never leave me nor forsake me. I want to live my life loving God with all my heart, not money or anything else.

Application: Memorize Hebrews 13:5 to remind me of these things.
